Last Tuesday, Village of WestClay residents attended a community meeting to hear and comment on plans for a proposed Build to Rent development on 25 acres southeast of Towne Road and 126th Street that would include 214 rental homes. See Plan Below

Given that the community’s reaction was overwhelmingly opposed to the project, David and I had planned to share the video link of the meeting – particularly for the homeowners who could not attend. In the meantime, the developers have WITHDRAWN the original proposed plan. The plan’s withdrawal does not mean the property owner won’t pursue other development plans.
I wanted to share an anecdote as food for thought for future proposed development. David has developed several pieces of land during his career. He and two other partners developed the land at 136th and Springmill that became The Woods at Williams Creek. City officials suggested there would likely be more support for the neighborhood if the developers were open to donating a parcel of land for a new fire station. The developers donated the land that Fire Station 46 sits on as part of the development of The Woods of Williams Creek.
As new plans for the land at 126th and Towne Rd. are proposed, residents might consider what benefits the developers could bring to the Village of WestClay and surrounding neighborhoods. When a promising plan is proposed, residents can look to the developer to contribute to the community in creative ways. We have some ideas for community improvements the developer could include in their plans. Call us if you have ideas you want to discuss.
We will continue to keep you posted on new developments.
